MEF annual gala brings in more than $80,000 for student scholarships

A blizzard was no match for the Mapleton Education Foundation’s 2009 “Fly me to the Moon!” gala, which reached new heights this year raising more than $80,000. The money raised will be used to support the Foundation’s priority programs, including 45 student scholarships. The Foundation will also donate $30,000 to support Mapleton’s science programs.
The Mapleton Chamber Orchestra once again delighted more than 300 guests, sharing their musical talents while people placed their bids on a variety of auction items. Under the shadows and silhouettes of jets and airplanes, guests dined while enjoying the piano stylings of Mapleton alumni Kenny Saccamono. Classroom science materials doubled as center pieces, which guests were able to purchase and donate to a classroom in the District. Thanks to those generous purchases, classrooms will now be able to benefit from new sets of science books, star theaters, rockets, and DNA models. It was a spectacular night, with friends, family and co workers coming together in support of Mapleton students.
The Mapleton Education Foundation would like to thank all the Mapleton staff who graciously donated through the employee drive this year. We were able to raise $25,545! This amount is truly incredible, considering the size of the District. It is a measure of how committed the Mapleton family is to our students.
The Mapleton Education Foundation would also like to thank our Liaisons: Natasha Wright, Connie Fisher, Kaysey Perez, Marisa Abreo, Sharon Forbes, Jim Hamilton, Beverly Knappe-Byrd, Maritza Calderon, Gina Barros, Kristy Reynolds-Keahey, Lindsey Molinaro, Sharon Kish, Courtney Hammond, Andrew Koning, Chris Byrd, Cathe Valdez, and Hilary Hacic. Also, a big thanks to all the staff at the schools who created such wonderful silent auction baskets for the event
