Named Scholarships

Through the generosity and dedication of members of the Mapleton community, the following scholarship programs have been developed to support Mapleton’s students in their post-secondary pursuits.

Back on Track Scholarship Sponsored by Time to Change

The Back on Track Scholarship is sponsored by Time to Change Community Corrections Program. This renewable scholarship award provides $2,000 per year to a Mapleton student who has faced challenging obstacles in his or her life and is committed to creating a positive future for him or herself. This scholarship focuses on a student’s potential to contribute positively to the community and acknowledges perseverance in overcoming significant odds.

Regina E. Matney Teaching Scholarship

The Regina E. Matney Teaching Scholarship honors the teaching career of Regina E. Matney, a former teacher at Valley View Elementary School. Mrs. Matney’s love of teaching and her tireless commitment to elementary education and music left an indelible mark on her students, her colleagues and all those who crossed her path. This scholarship honors Mrs. Matney’s dedication to the field of education by awarding one $1,500 scholarship each year to a Mapleton student planning to enter a career in teaching.

Augustine & Trinidad Sanchez Teaching Scholarship

The Augustine & Trinidad Sanchez Teaching Scholarship was established by Noel and Sue Busck in honor of Augustine and Trinidad Sanchez and their commitment to hard work and education. The scholarship program will award one $1,000 scholarship each year to a graduating Mapleton student of Mexican or Mexican-American heritage who is planning to enter a career in teaching.

Tom Fuselier Memorial Scholarship

The Thomas J. Fuselier Memorial Scholarship was established in 2007 in honor of Tom Fuselier, husband of Elizabeth Fuselier, Mapleton Education Foundation Board Past President. One $2,000 1year scholarship will be awarded.

John G. Byrd Scholarship

The John G. Byrd Scholarship honors the generous support and commitment of the Byrd Family. The scholarship celebrates the dreams of the two deserving recipients and their potential to give back to the community and world. Two $1,000 scholarship will be awarded in 2010.

Global Leadership Academy Scholarship

This is a $1000 Scholarship to be used for tuition, books, or other college/career related expenses. To be eligible the student must be a graduating senior from GLA planning to attend an accredited college or university in the next academic year or apprenticeship program.
